The company will operate an 80,000 sq./ft. theatre and entertainment center on more than ten acres within the development.
The complex, preliminarily called, “The Palms Theatres, IMAX, & Family Entertainment Center,” will introduce a truly unique movie-going and entertainment experience to the eastern Iowa area. Exterior renderings of the facility illustrate its sheer size and contemporary lines. Interior drawings call for modern, upscale design elements and finishes. Fridley Theatres and the Ders Group expect the Park Place development, anchored by the Palms, to become an entertainment destination.
The Palms Theatres, IMAX, & Family Entertainment Center will feature an impressive list of amenities, which begins with nine state-of-the-art theatres and an IMAX® theatre. The IMAX® auditorium will highlight IMAX’s laser projection technology, its 12-channel immersive sound system, and a giant, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen.
Fridley Theatres will bring its infamous “UltraLux Loungers” to every auditorium at the Palms. First introduced in its Waukee, IA, location, these reserved seating recliners have defined the experience in Waukee and become the top pick of local movie-goers. Designed for ultra-comfort and convenience, they are the widest seats in the market. They feature two heat settings, moveable love seat arms, and tray tables.
Every auditorium in the building will offer digital laser projection, immersive audio, and large, curved screens. Several theatres will be outfitted with RealD 3D capabilities.
The list of amenities continues. The movie and entertainment center will include 16 lanes of bowling, an arcade, laser tag, and gaming space, and a full restaurant, bar, and outdoor patio. The restaurant/bar will offer specialty and classic appetizers, entrees, desserts, and cocktails. Those wishing to view a movie and enjoy food and/or drink will have an option to pick up and take these items into their auditorium.
Party and screening rooms will be available for special event, birthday, and meeting rentals as well.
The Palms Theatres, IMAX, & Family Entertainment Center will bring a wide variety of entertainment options into a single building, and it will offer these experiences in a luxury setting.

Fridley Theatres, a family-owned business, was incorporated in 1974, but its history goes much deeper. Its founder, Robert L. Fridley, was a prominent figure in the movie industry for more than 80 years. In the early 40s, he purchased his first theatre in New Sharon, IA. He was a movie man. He loved the magic, and he loved the people, and through the decades, he built a thriving movie theatre company. Today, Fridley Theatres operates 18 locations and 98 screens, and its facilities range from historic, one-screen movie houses to state-of-the-art multiplexes. Its mission is to cultivate Robert Fridley’s passion and pioneering spirit, to grow and move the company in the face of constant change, and to remember its founding principle: to deliver Midwestern service, exceptional presentation, and a magical experience to its most important asset, its valued guests.
